Ambassadors Programme

The Ambassadors’ Programme will be addressing a range of issues that have an impact upon the important themes of the World Gymnaestrada.

The Lausanne Organising Committee opens the doors to Ambassadors from FIG Member Federations that have never participated, or only a very long time ago, to a chance to live a thrilling experience on site. This programme aims to convey the magic as well as to experience what happens behind the scenes at such an event. Ambassadors will live this event from a very special access to Group Performances, Forums and Conferences. They will also have the opportunity to visit some national and international sports organizations, as well as doing some unique networking. Thus, they will have the occasion to exchange and share knowledge with experts on any related matters.

This programme is specifically designed to encourage new FIG Member Federations to show their talent and participate in the next World Gymnaestrada and to embrace the “Gymnastics for All” movement, as well as its values around the globe.

In addition, the organising committee will cover the expenses of the activities of the Ambassadors. More information here.

So far, no less than 48 countries have registered. Coming from the five continents and representing some 22,000 participants, they will be bringing their culture and traditions to Lausanne and making the city pulsate to the sound and rhythm of gymnastics.

We are still contacting a number of countries, some of whom have participated, but others not yet, in a World Gymnaestrada, and really hope to be able to welcome them in Lausanne. We warmly invite all the others to join them.

May the festival be magical, thanks to you, the participants and all the other friends of gymnastics!

365 Days to Go Before the WG-2011 !!!

Every street corner will have its share of things to discover: apart from the three main sites, there will be four gymnastics stages, six musical entertainment stages, three entertainment villages of 5,000 to 15,000 people with concerts every evening. But also clumps of flowers in the colours of the WG-2011, cutting a veritable gymnastic path across the city…… in short, in July 2011, the City of Lausanne will become the true capital of “Gymnastics for All”!

Official launch of the countdown…

To celebrate the launch of the countdown, Lausanne is going to come alive on SATURDAY 9 OCTOBER 2010. On that occasion, a festive programme will be offered to you, as a way of officially presenting this completely unique event. During the afternoon, colourful processions will parade enthusiastically through the streets of Lausanne to the sounds of Guggen Music. They will all converge at the Place de la Riponne, where from 16.00, the official mascots will be unveiled for you…

The festivities will continue afterwards, from 18.30, in the Flon district, for a convivial evening full of surprises, with something to please both old and young. There will be notably the grand premiere, live, of the Official Hymn of the WG-2011. The evening will finish with a touch of magic in the form of a "son et lumière" show in the image of the WG-2011.

World Gymnaestrada Lausanne 2011 has gained a new recruit!

Although it has only just arrived, everyone agrees. Decked out in the WG-2011 colours, it has already made 5 appearances. A veritable market bus, it enables the event to be present at every gymnastics or popular gathering. On location, it opens itself right up to let the event introduce itself with brochures, post cards, stickers, but above all the experience that the bus operators share with you, explaining all about this magic event. Highly colourful and emotional, it’s really worth a visit by everyone to discover its unique atmosphere. The bus lets the spectator enter into the spirit of the event, swept away by the colours of the products on offer. Jackets, polo shirts, t-shirts, pullovers, towels and lots of other items help you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere around 400 days before the event.

The schedule of appearances is published and you can go to the locations in question to admire the bus and obtain some of the accessories. You can find the programme below. Don’t worry, the next occasion isn’t far off!

Volunteer Registration has started!

The World Gymnaestrada, which will take place in July 2011 offers you the chance of a unique multicultural experience by signing up as a volunteer! Registration has today officially started and we are looking forward to receiving many applications.

To register, you just have to click on the “Volunteer’s” box on the right hand side of the site’s home page. There you will find all the information you require.

Join the Gymnaestrada Course

The objective of these few days was to make all those federations attending aware of Gymnastics for All, by explaining its values, its features and its leading events. Thus the participants were able to leave with a much clearer idea of this discipline and of what Gym for Life and World Gymnaestrada are all about. All the workshop sessions were interspersed with practical segments, in order to show them the type of productions one finds in Gymnastics for All, whether involving gymnastics or dancing, and with or without apparatus.

In addition, one half-day was reserved for the WG-2011 and the OC representatives who attended were able to promote Lausanne and its region and the concept prepared for 2011. Some administrative points such as the registration procedures or participant costs were also covered.

It is important to underline the excellent atmosphere that pervaded the whole workshop and the warm welcome reserved for all of the participants by the Korean Gymnastics Federation and all of its staff.

We hope that in July 2011 in Lausanne we shall have the chance to welcome all of the countries who attended the workshop among the large family of Gymnastics for All! Namely: South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Mongolia, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Qatar, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand!

DSR – Official Caterer for the WG-2011

Founded in 1919, DSR has a long experience in group catering. A leader in this field in French-speaking Switzerland, DSR ensures, on a daily basis, the management and operations of more than 230 restaurants. In this capacity, the company is an important economic player in Switzerland. DSR is also the most important of the 9 members of the group bearing its name, each operating independently and in the catering business. The DSR Group employs over 1,500 people and has a consolidated turnover of CHF 230 million. DSR and all of its group companies will manage all catering requirements at the WG-2011 sites on an exclusive basis.

DSR is thus joining those companies who have already decided to associate themselves with the vision of sporting practices propounded by the World Gymnaestrada. This unusual event, whose main speciality is to offer high level performances within a non-competitive framework, brings together all the basic, humane values that form the basis of our love of our sport: sharing, friendship, pleasure, meeting, exchanging, beauty and well-being.

Workshop "Join the Gymnaestrada"

This meeting is part of an F.I.G. programme to encourage more and more countries to take part in the World Gymnaestrada. In this context, the WG-2011 went to Mexico, in August 2008, in order to present its concept to the countries of the Panamerican Gymnastics Union (PAGU). The OC is looking forward to the next occasion, at the beginning of March, to meeting the countries of the African Gymnastics Union.

The OC of Lausanne, and the FIG, are looking forward hosting as many countries as possible in Lausanne in 2011. This is why they are happy to meet the different member federations of the AGU, in order to present to them with a preview of what Lausanne is preparing for the 14th edition of the World Gymnaestrada.

Moreover, many countries have announced themselves, that haven’t participated in any World Gymnaestradas or perhaps in only one. We are especially looking forward to welcoming and/or meeting again: South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Qatar, Singapore and Sri Lanka. We hope that other countries will be able to join the list.

The outcome of these meetings will be reported to you in February.
