The birth of the mascots…
Dominating the city’s skyline, Notre-Dame Cathedral is one of the main landmarks of Lausanne. For more than 600 years, the watchtower has stood guard over the city. From 10 pm to 2 am, it chimes each hour on the 4 cardinal points. From the top of the cathedral’s belfry, the city’s kindly spirits can see and hear everything that is going on in Lausanne. Very happy to welcome the World Gymnaestrada, these spirits breathed life into the cathedral’s weathervane and belfry, calling them “Jim” (standing for gymnastics) & “Cathy” (standing for the cathedral) in honour of the event. The mission of these two mischievous creatures will be to circulate among the participants and spectators, who decide to experience the magical moments of the World Gymnaestrada in Lausanne.
